Paraboloidal Dish Arrays with Steam Energy Transport Network

چکیده
A model for calculating annual system costs that are associated with collector placement for an array of paraboloidal dishes with a steam energy transport network is presented. All possible lattices that define a regularly-spaced dish-array within a discrete finite parameter space are applied to a previously proposed array shape and energy transport network topology. An optimum lattice, subject to constraints introduced by shading and losses associated with the energy transport network, is presented. A brief analysis of the lattice suggests that summerand winter-solstice sunrise azimuth angles may inform the placement of such arrays.

Modelling of a 400m steam based Paraboloidal Dish concentrator for solar thermal power production
The Australian National University has a 400m Paraboloidal dish solar concentrator system, informally named “the Big Dish” that produces superheated steam via a receiver mounted monotube boiler. The system, (shown in Figure 1) which is the worlds largest was constructed in 1994. This paper describes the results of the latest experimental tests plus associated system performance modelling. The s...
متن کاملShading Calculations for the Big Dish
The Australian National University has re-engineered its Big Dish design for commercialisation and mass production [1], building the 'SG4' 500m Big Dish solar paraboloidal concentrator for solar-thermal to electric energy conversion using direct-steam generation. The SG4 Dish implements two-axis tracking and may be incorporated into a dish-array for large-scale power production. A program has b...
متن کاملDIRECT STEAM GENERATION USING THE SG4 500m PARABOLOIDAL DISH CONCENTRATOR
The ANU 500 m dish is the first prototype of a new design geared towards mass production and low levelised cost of energy. The dish has high quality optics, with a geometric concentration ratio above 2200, and can be used for a variety of energy conversion technologies. The SG4 concentrator is currently being operated in direct steam generation mode with a monotube steam receiver. Experimental ...

This paper presents current research on Direct Steam Generation (DSG) by the Solar Thermal Group at ANU. It includes ongoing work on a transient model for a dish steam cavity receiver that is suitable for model-based control of DSG as well as reporting on the experimental set-up on a new 500m paraboloidal dish solar concentrator. A comparison of two transient models of a dish steam cavity recei...
متن کاملDemonstration of Energy Storage Integrated with a Solar Dish Field in Whyalla
This paper describes progress towards a first-of-a-kind demonstration of an integrated solar dish and moltensalt storage system, using the superheated steam energy transport concept developed by Wizard Power. Superheated steam is used to charge an energy storage system with a single sensible-heat-storage medium (in this case molten salt), by restricting the steam conditions to the superheat reg...
